Troubles are round us on every side, but we are not shut in; things are hard for us, but we see a way out of them; We are cruelly attacked, but not without hope; we are made low, but we are not without help; In our bodies there is ever the mark of t…

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. ~ Jeremiah 29:13 ** Maybe no two world-famous figures took this so seriously, as to prove it in their lives, than Martin Luther (1483-1546) and Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910) . Both of th…

Writer
I'm here to...
help others grow in Christ, even as they help me grow (Prov. 27:17)
Interests:
Bible, prayer, misisons, writing, sports, reading
I'm passionate about...
loving my wife, pointing people to Jesus, giving Biblical counsel, praying for people, lay preaching, playing golf
My story with God
I was saved as a teen. However I did not grow. I strayed. I became a school teacher. Three of my students were killed in a wreck. God allowed that to crush me. He showed up at my home and reclaimed me. I've never been the same.
Other stuff about me:
I like witty humor and even bad puns. I like non-gory sci-fi. I like old radio comedy programs. I've always had a passion for baseball and golf. I've been a part-time sports journalist for over half my life. I have broadcast football and basketball on radio and internet. I've been on nine overseas mission trips: Romania (3), Russia (2), India, Ukraine, Paris, Jamaica, Trinidad. As a lay preacher, I've done a couple of short stints as interim at small churches. For five years, I've written daily Bible devotionals (Mon.-Fri.) for an e-mail list and my Christian web sites. I'm published author: two POD novels, many short stories in regional publications. I taught English and coached four sports over the years. OK, that's enough. :)

Two Mountains, One God

Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. ~ Matthew 28:16-17

**

Here are New Testament echoes of Genesis 22:1-19. The angel told the women to tell the disciples to meet the resurrected Christ in Galilee, and our text says that, somewhere along the line of communication, a particular mountain was mentioned. They went by faith. Did they really think He had risen from the grave and would mee… Continue

Philosophy vs. God

For, as I have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things. ~ Philippians 3:18-19

In "Pensées," you will read this from Blasé Pascal: "How should they (philosophers) have provided you with a cure for ills which they have not even understood. Your principal maladies are pride, which cuts you off from God, and se… Continue

Towers of Pride

Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. As men moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there. They said to each other, "Come, let's make bricks and bake them thoroughly." They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth." ~ Genesis 11:1-4

Theocracy

That power is like the working of His mighty strength, which He (God the Father) exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under His feet and appointed Him to be head over everything for the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him Who fills everything in… Continue

Shadows and Reality

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. ~ James 1:17

**

The British Malcolm Muggeridge (1903-1990), one of the rather unheralded-in-America Christian intellectuals of the 20th Century, proposed that the modern media age's effect is akin to Plato's shadows-and-cave analogy. The people born and raised in a cave saw shadows on the cave walls and mistook them for actual people. Only when they walked o… Continue

Amen to your Generous God blog today. I agree that John IS the most sensitive of all the Apostles. This is sweet irony to me personally because when I came to the Lord almost 1yr ago, He started me in the gospel of John; John 21. I am extremely sensitive to others as well, and I believe the Lord lead me to John BECAUSE of his sensitivity. And how right you are; yes, we must give up certain things for God. But whatever we give up, he gives us back 10 fold of the abundance of what was given up. The Lord WANTS to give us the desires of our heart; even the smallest ones! And once we give something up, it eventually, GLORIFIES HIM!

Oh how I love your blog post, Volleyball with Jesus. I was reminded of how sweet it is to be loved by Him..as well as to not worry knowing that it's not about me, it's not about what I can do, but it's a matter of trusting what God can accomplish through me, through my weaknesses. To God be the glory!

hello, this is the joke for today. i got this from the AAG forum-

WHAT'S A CHURCH?

A well-worn one-dollar bill and a similarly distressed twenty-dollar bill arrived at a Federal Reserve Bank to be retired. As they moved along the conveyor belt to be burned, they struck up a conversation. The twenty-dollar bill reminisced about its travels all over the country.

"I've had a pretty good life," the twenty-dollar bill proclaimed. "Why I've been to Las Vegas and Atlantic City , the finest restaurants in New York , performances on Broadway, and even a cruise to the Caribbean "

"Wow!" said the one-dollar bill. "You've really had an exciting life!"

"So tell me," says the twenty-dollar bill, "where have you been throughout your lifetime?"

The one dollar bill replies, "Oh, I've been to the Methodist Church , the Baptist Church, the Lutheran Church."

The twenty-dollar bill interrupts, "What's a church?"
