- Many times we come up against the issue of supporting others. Illness, Finances, relationships, and death are a few issues where support is called for.
I want to discuss how we are to support those who are afflicted with illness whether emotional, physical, or spiritual.
As Christians we have a responsibility to care for those who are ill, First by prayer, because we should always be lifting up those who are sick and ask God to heal them.
While we are waiting for that healing to manifest we should be doing all we can by supporting them in a practical since. Bring meals, visit them, go do errands for them, do Bible studies with them if they are up to it. And most of all keep praying with, and for them.
Do not ever make the person feel bad if they are not instantly healed. The two pillars of love are patience and kindness, our job is to support them and not judge them.
“Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord;” ( James 5:14 )
“Because I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat. I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger, and you welcomed me. I was naked, and you clothed me. I was sick, and you took care of me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’
“Then the righteous will say to him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and give you something to eat, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you as a stranger and welcome you, or see you naked and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?”
40The king will answer them, “I tell you with certainty, since you did it for one of the least important of these brothers of mine, you did it for me.” ( Matthew 25:35-40 )
“And they were casting out many demons and were anointing with oil many sick people and healing them.' ( Mark 6:16 )
“...they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover." ( Mark 16:18b, )
Also there will be support that is needed for those who have mental issues. Our support for them could be to make sure they are taking their prescribed medications, visiting them, and to just be in their life for them.
The scripture says to comfort ( be near ) the feeble minded. ( Fainthearted, discouragement, little strength, timid ) (1 Thessalonians 5:14 0
This scripture really says a lot about what it means to comfort some one with a mental illness, “to be near them”.
Many times we just stay clear of them and hope the secular doctors can help them.
You may know of someone in your church who has one of their family member diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Others might have a family member who is suicidal, and maybe your best Christian friend has fallen into clinical depression.
It is at these times that we need to draw near to them and bring comfort, support, and encouragement to them.
There was a story in Mark chapter two about a paralyzed man who was brought to Jesus to be healed, His friends were so disparate to see their friend healed that they literally tore the roof off the house so they could lower the cot with the paralyzed man was on it down into the house where Jesus was, and the man was healed.
This is such a picture of how we are to support and help the sick. These men loved their friend and had faith to believe Jesus could heal him and they were so convinced that they went to extremes to see their friend healed.
It makes all the difference in the world for those who are afflicted with physical or mental illness to know that they are loved and do not have to face their illness alone. - Other stuff about me:
- I write devotionals that I share with others, I write them from the things God is teaching me every day.
I know how discouraged we can get and how important it is to find a refreshing word of encouragement. I desire to have the moral character of Jesus to develop more in my life so that glory will be given to God. I desire to touch others with the love of God in this new year like never before.
I want nothing more than to hear my Lord say well done thy good and faithful servant, to end my race well for Him and to finish the race of faith he has given to me.

Thank you. The scripture you sent to me really spoke to me and encouraged me...particularly the one that is based on Habakkuk.. eyes off of my cirsumstances and onto God. Thank you so much dear brother for your beautiful encouragement....my prayer is that this will display God's Glory in my life...and that Craig will see Jesus through it all. I am praying for healing...but mostly for God's Glory to be revealed in that!

All I do is because I want to serve my Lord any little I can in any possible way that I can do to serve my Lord. And I can never accept that christians reject verses of God sent to them. I always hunger of His word and keep on searching Him any way I can. I just can not understand whenever I sent God's word to somebody and she or he said it was a scamp. All I am doing is nearly end for it is a yearly sending. Thank you so much for your care brother. We have to pray more together for the whole world. God bless you abundantly always in everything. here I am... finally contacting you all the way from the Niagara region here in Canada.! I am so sorry for not having done so on this site for so long! I've been so busy typing out the words to 50 poms, short stories as well as adding scriptures at the bottom of a lot of the poems to serve as a little devotional . POETIC TREASURES cover is being illustrated as i type this and it's all because of that wonderful Michelle Reed who set up THE INK WELL .ning site; that I got to know and love just like a real sister now, that this dream is even beginning to come to pass pertaining to my writing! Michelle got the whole ball rolling. She will soon have THE INK WELL BOOK published that she has worked so hard on all in-between her job, loving and sending encouraging messages to on The INK WELL site, as well as working pertaining to POETIC TREASURES !!! What a wonderful sister and friend to all who have gotten to know her! She glows. Go to my page and look at the new pics by the way. Michelle is standing with her husband John and her family members in England where she is from; although was born in Jamaica and lived there a while before moving to the UK. The Lord is dealing with His children! It's so refreshing having fellowship via this web site. My wife and I have different work schedules, and the church I use to go to just split last year.
Footholds- their easy to get ensnared into. The wise one will listen to the word of God. I find myself wondering why- why when we have so great a salvation, promises of a future hope, promises of peace and contentment, and an opportunity to develop an intimate relationship with the Creator of the universe- why do we still choose to do contrary to what He tells us to- especially when it's for our own good anyways!
I guess Bob, that's the prayer of my heart. To just obey Him. To have that child like trust that He's got it all under control. Life goes by in flash. before we know it, we'll be standing before Him. I want to be ready- no shame, but ecstatic that I'm finally with Him- forever.
I'll pick up that book. Thank you!

Hi Bob! Wow! My sister cathy brought over an old carboard box that my dad who wen to heaven 12 years ago almost nos, had. In the box I found a cassette tape of me singing to a lot of song tracks I had way back then in 1987! 1987!!!! I picture this like yesterday! Over at my mother and fathers place, in the spare room with dad all thrilled because he had purchased a new sound system that could record me singing!< LOL> You talk about a precious memeory but oh how my dad sucked at setting things up!< LOL he would always fool around with the volume etc.; However, regardles of the home made song track not being done to perfection, oh how nice it is to have it! Precious memories! We had a raost beef and mashed potatioe dinner that day, by the way! I remeber well.< LOL Yummy! My mother went to heaven two years after my father did when she passsed on Feb; 25th/2000. " I want to go be with frnk two years after him. " Mom had said to me, not too long after my dad passed away, when my mother was only in her 3rd mongth of recovery from having had 3 serious strokes, one after another@! Dad passed awy shortly befor my sister cathy's birthday which was january 17 : the day of the year 1998 when my dad was buried. " When I die, " My dad used to say. " I want you to have this engraved on my tombstone: " Don't bother coming here to visit me becuase I'm not her! I'm in Heaven with jeus so if you want to see me again, well you better accept jeus into your life!" < LOLOh yeah, thankyou so much for the latest ;lovely card you sent to my page! I love those things so much but of course... whew... love those song videos and songs period! God bless you.
Now I have one more taoe that may be the good soundtrack i recored at my frined Bob's place in 1993, professionally done. I pray when I put the last tape on here, that that is ... the one!
