"Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be they name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. (Matthew 6:9-13)
When our son was approximately 6 years old, my husband thought it would be a good idea to teach our 6 year old son the Lord's Prayer. Each night we began going through the prayer with him slowly so that he could understand and memorize what he was saying. Hearing his precious voice recite such holy words left a huge impression on my heart. The interesting thing was that I found myself dwelling on the words of this prayer as I never had before. I realized the significance of Jesus instructing us how to pray, and as I studied each verse it was incredible to me that He had "covered all the bases" when it comes to things we often pray for!
"Our Father who art in Heaven" The prayer starts by acknowledging that God is our Heavenly Father! Beginning our prayers this way makes it personal because He is a personal God. How wonderful to know he is our Father and will take care of us just as we are His children!
"Hallowed be thy name" Not only are we to call him Father, but we are to praise His holy name! What a way to start a prayer, by first lifting up His name and showing Him praise. We should always humble ourselves before Him because He is worthy of all our praise!
"Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven." This is perhaps my favorite part of the prayer. I grew up hearing my father use this verse in every instance of life, and he always said, "Thy will be done Lord, not mine!" And let me tell you, he meant it! God's will for our lives is already decided in heaven. What we are to ask Him to do is to allow it to be done on earth just as He has planned it in heaven. Only then can His kingdom shine through us! What a blessing!
"Give us this day our daily bread" I'm certainly not a biblical scholar but I take this to mean that we ask God to provide us with all of our daily needs. And notice the word "daily"; we are to go to Him every day in prayer and ask for such needs.
"And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us" Wow! This is a big one! Some versions use the word "debts" or "sins" instead of trespasses, but this is the one I learned as a child. The important thing is that we should ask for forgiveness from our Father each time we pray! And not only for us, but that He would help us to forgive others just as He forgives us.
"Lead us not into temptation" Knowing that we would all face temptation, He instructs us to go to God for help. There is no temptation too big for Him to help us overcome.
"But deliver us from evil" Yes, of course! Please God, keep us safe from all evil and keep angels all around us! I'm so glad that Jesus saw this as something important to pray for because it's certainly a daily prayer of mine. He will keep us safe in his arms, if we just ask Him to protect us.
"For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen" Great! Let's finish our prayers by praising His name once more! It is His kingdom. His is the power. And His is the glory! Amen!! Isn't the usage of the word "is" wonderful! Not "was" but "is"!
Prayer: Almighty God, thank you for being our Heavenly Father. Help me continue to learn from the holy words of Lord's Prayer. I am forever grateful for You and your Word. Amen.
i have to make sure i dont leave the lights on for too long at night now.... *sigh* money problems hopefully next year i wont be in a classroom with like 50 kids
Hi Felix, a traveling nurse is a nurse who works for an agency that contracts with hospitals all over the US and sometimes other countries for usually 3 month contracts. I've been from Alaska to Rhode Island working in the intensive care units. It's a great way to see the US! Have a good night. Barb
hi feli, hope u r well.i did not recieve any of your joke.the lord is good and we have to give him thanks whether is as bless us big or small.the lord never fail.
That was a cute joke you shared about the dollar bill...and also sad. It reminds me of a very cute Youtube video called the 'Tithe Rap.' You should check it out if you have a moment, as it is priceless and hits the mark perfectly. I also enjoy the video, 'Baby Got Book,' which is also wonderful for anyone who is a believer. Your joke was good, so I will share one that I love as well:
The world's leading scientists have gotten cocky and arrogant, stating that they are able to create life from dust, just as God has done. God, interested in their claim, asked them to demonstrate their ability to create life, and the stage is set. The scientists come before God with all of their instruments and knowledge, and say 'let us have dust to begin our work' and God says in response, 'get your own dust.'
This one always makes me laugh. Science is wonderful, and does not disprove the existence of God, but rather highlights and emphasizes the wonder of His creation.
Felix. Thanks for your message on my page. I am OK. My internet connection was down for several days including the past week-end. Back on line now. God bless you. You are in my prayers. Keep up the good work.
Thanx for the invite to be friends. I enjoy the possibility of fellowship with people from all over the world. The greatest thing aboit it is that they are all Christians. Thanx again for having me as a friend, God Bless and keep You, Todd
Hey Felix, Thanx for the invite. It's good to hear from someone other than my wife. She's beautiful and talkative, I enjoy hearing from her but also enjoy hearing from others. Thanx and I hope to hear more from you. May the All Mighty bless and keep you. Todd
how do u love oneself?, i dn't love myself, i've been a bad girl whole my life, my mother told me she hates me and i'm a burden 4 her, may be she told of her anger but these words hurted me a lot
thank you po... currently i am looking for a job and by the grace of GOD i know that i will be provided..
i really appreciate your comments..
you really inspire me..
Thank you for the welcome.....the joke shared contained more truth than fiction. In view of today's financial woes, the dollar in a moderate amount is a blessing, but is proving in an abundance to be a curse.
Thanks for your comment. I take it you were impressed with the bike I am sitting on. Look at my profile and you will see some closer pics of it. The Hellfighters have a new facility here in Laurel where they are ministering to people mainly bikers. They have been changed transformed and renewed by the blood of Jesus. Awesome Ministry
Hi, Felix. It's nice to meet you. Thank you for encouraging me about turning 40! I am hoping that my 40's will be even better than my 30's were. I'm going to trust Jesus.I know that everyday of life we have is a blessing!! I am thankful to him for his great love and care to get me to this lovely age of 40! God bless and keep you!
