Dear Paige; I left a comment for Angie regarding anti-depressants and I think you should understand depression better. I am a critical care nurse for 15 years. I have had to study this during some point in my career. And there is a part of the brain called the Limbic system which helps produce nuerotransmitters and other chemicals. When someone suffers from lack of production of these chemicals it puts them at risk to develop depression. All you need is a triggering event and it is set in motion. Anti-depressants are made of the chemicals the brain is not able to make enough of. Therefor to boost these levels up. Just like a diabetic who doesn't make enough insulin because the pancreas doesn't work that person has to take extra insulin. Diabeties is also brought on by a triggering event as well. Our generation lacks these chemicals more than ever because of our diets of this generation. Just like there are more diabetes. You can compare these two disease process so much because they are both lacking something, d/t diet. Triggered by an event. And then needs to be taken because the body no longer produces enough. As I said anti-depressants are not mind altering medications, they only replace the chemicals that our brain is not making enough of. Want more info. let me know. (I also have depression, didn't understand it, so I researched it in depth from medical standpoint) God bless you. God loves all. Even more so those who have heavy crosses to bear. God Bless. Love Mandy

    Dear Paige,

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but do not despair; The Great Physician has yet to find a disease that He cannot handle. I suffer from the same affliction as you do. It supposedly comes part-and-parcel with my congestive heart failure, but I had it even before the heart attack I suffered at age 34 that started me down this cardiac trail just over two years ago. Since my teens, I had been in and out of counseling for depression and it seems to be genetic, too.

My most important thing to tell you is first to pray and then find a doctor and therapist (preferably Christians if possible) that you trust and listen to them and their advice. Also, don't be afraid of medications. (I can't be afraid of them! LOL!) The antidepressant I am taking, the generic form of Prozac, has helped me more than I can ever say. I still get down but not nearly as low as I did before I started the medication.

And stay close to your Heavenly Father and your Christian brethren (and sistren!). They will be more of a help than you know. Mine have certainly been there for me!

And keep up that wonderful talent, which can be therapy in itself. Look at how many talented people have had this very malady! I personally think King David himself had depression. Edgar Allan Poe almost certainly did and I LOVE his writing, though he was not a Christian.

    Remembering you in my prayers,

Thomas, a Forgiven Son of Adam

Dear Paige; tell your friends and family that this is a medical condition; just like other medical condition. That your medication is only supplementing the neurotransmitters that your brain is not making enough of. Glad to be your friend. God bless. Mandy

Hi Paige thanks for the invite to be friends im so glad to finally meet other christians who struggle with this depression . Its really hard when you have no one to talk and share things about how we feel and how it affects our everyday life . I would like to talk to you about the medications you take and maybe compare what i take to see what works for you. I believe the best thing about having this is that it brings me so much closer to God than I probally would be. So I thank him for my weaknesses because now I have to depend on Him . 2 Corithians 12:10 Therefore Iam well content with my weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christs sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

    Hey Paige,

Had a great skiing trip a couple of weeks ago. Coming back for more snow in Utah tomorrow (Thurs). Got a couple of "your" quarters while there. Great design. Looks like we will get some sun this time. Got caught in a "white out" last time at the end of the stay. Take care! -Stew

  • Ann

    Hey
Its me Annie I cant find my other password so I had to start a new account! I miss you! Whats up?
  • angie

    >Hi Paige you are too sweet!! I was thinking the same thing about you! You look very young for your age! *anyway* I am so glad you shared your testimony with me and I think we become bold enough to tell it because of Jesus it is through Him that we are able to come to grips with the things of our past and share with others. Sometimes "others" dont understand but there is someone maybe even just one who is waiting for someone like you to tell them what Christ has done for you. I feel so privileged that God would use me for anything , and I want to share with others the peace that only Jesus can give! I want others to have that same peace dont u? I also had "some woman" in my church who at first was very nice too me and than after a while I felt like she was judging me. Not really over my past but more about what was going on with me now. I take prozac and depekoate for anxiety and depression and she told me if I believed that God was God that I wouldnt need the medications. I did reduce my dose and I felt ok but she was still on me about it. I didnt think that it was a good idea to just stop taking it ,since before i went on them I got really sick! I really wanted her too like me so I was trying to "please" but in the process was making decisions based on feelings and not on knowledge. Since then i have quit going to church and feel like im becoming distant again I still read my Bible , pray , and ,worship God but the fellowship I had before is gone I just felt like she was trying to control me and thats a big no no with me. Thats when I found this sight I know it is not a replacement for going to church, but it has helped me feel closer to other believers Im so glad we met on here and look forward to sharing more with you Hope I havent bored you - Love in Christ- Angie

    Dear Sister Paige,

I hope I helped at least a little bit with my words on Calvinism. Sorry if I just made things worse for you.

    Yours,
    Thomas
  • Forgiven_Son_of_Adam

And thank you for your kind words!

I think you are awesome in the Lord as well! And keep asking questions; it's the best way to learn.

    Peace to you!
  • Ron Payne

    Hi Paige,
I Trust the Lord is blessing you this morning as you worship Him in sincerety and truth.
Yes Paige, Because of it's many implications, the doctrine of Calvinism will always carry luggage of confusion. One can be sure that the forces of darkness will eventualy see to it, that the whole scenario will eventually explode and cause rifts and valleys in the Christian community.
Because of the history, the depth and vast amount of information one must have at one's fingertips to fully understand what learned theologians have to say, will prove to be quite a "Chunk" of meat to bite off. In fact, an understanding theologian in his wisdom knowing that most of us do not have this background, would wisely tell us:
    "I have no other argument,
And I have no other plea.
But that Jesus died for you,
    And Jesus died for me."

As Babes in Christ that should be sufficient until we ourselves grow in stature and knowledge of the Word of God.
So yes, continue to search the Scriptures for in them you will find eternal life, but rather as a Babe in Christ, first feed on the Milk of the Word and I am sure the meat will follow.
Your Brother in Christ - Ron.

Hi dear Paige; thank you for supporting me. I do believe that as Christians; people should not beleive that any mental disorder is an affliction of sin. We don't consider other health issues in that way. Someday people will understand. And hopefully the stigma will no longer be there. I also believe that we should not be judged by our afflictions! Have a blessed day. Love Mandy

    Paige,

A lot of homeschool parents switch to public or private school for high school. I do know a lot who homeschooled thru high school successfully, however. My son has some special needs, so I will probably keep homeschooling him. It's not an easy decision!

I see you joined the homeschool group here; hope that helps!

    God bless!

  • Lynor Van Rooyen

Hi Paige, thanks for your encouragement. I do know God can change any situation and that He loves my husband as much as He loves me and I do pray for him everyday. Some of us get to plant the seed and others water, but God gives the increase!

You are in a blessed position to have a husband who allows you to follow and grow in your faith, unfortunately my husband did not. He would not allow me to fellowship, attend chruch and even got annoyed when I read my bible, because he said that that should be time spent with him. He told me I was a weak person to believe in God and Jesus because this is a fairy story to givr people like me strength.
I just thank the Lord that I was able to put the things of the world behind me and rely totally on Him. Our God is so faithful and His promises are the same yesterday, today and forever and the blessings of Abraham are ours too if we will only believe.
I give God all the glory and all the honour for without Him I would not survive, and I praise Him that I am able to encourage others in similar controlling situations, who feel that they are not able to be on their own - GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME!
    Be blessed Lynor
