Dr. Durham,

You asked an interesting question.

My two cents (or perhaps a fraction thereof) is that Christ was putting Israel on notice that the Messiah had arrived. It is interesting to note that he did not read the entire prophecy from Isaiah 61. He read the first verse and read only a portion of the second. I believe he stopped because that which followed had not yet been fulfilled.

Given the fact that "the day of vengeance of our God" had not yet come, it could not be said to have been fulfilled.

Perhaps that was less than two cents. If so, please keep the change.

It has been said that evil flourishes when good men do nothing and I believe that if men and women who profess to know and love the Lord remain silent as fundamental belief in the Christ of the Gospels is attacked from every side then we deserve whatever happens.

about false teachers....
I have been in churches a long time....over 40 years now...never seen the amount of false teaching as i have in the last 20 years or so.....

I'm not afraid to expose them for what they are....too often, the church has taken a passive toxic compliant stance....that is why we have the problems we do....and if you do not think we have areas of problems...then you are one of the deceived.
I have recently been writing my third book to be published....
This last one is alll about Belief Systems....the false teachings in the churches and belief systems that do not have solid biblical principles.
Other belief systems will be addressed too.....like the Reformation era...when those guys stood for the truth and were often burned in so doing.
There are other great men of God and women of God who have brought the truth into the Christian church...
many...today say they are from God....call themselves prophets and apostles and such....but BEWARE!
"Not everyone who calls Me Lord, knows Me" "they are workers of iniquity and will be cast away"...jesus says...

Jeremiah 23:16-40----regarding false prophets saying they have a "word" from the Lord....or a "dream" from the Lord.

Ezekiel 13
Ezekiel 34----about a rebuke from the Lord to the Shepherds or pastors
Isaiah 30----ohhh rebellious children, you listen to everyone but ME,

Psalm 119:107-176---encouragement to follow the laws of God, like David did

could you tell me where christians go when they die i feel i am being mislead by someone and i need the biblical reference to this i pray that the holyspirt will enlighten me so that i will be able to know the truth mary

you must know Gods word to recognize Deception in the church, you must also have a relationship with the Holy Spirit...I can not say it enough KNOW GODS WORD....Carol Ann made a lot of good points below....People to-day are fed up with all thats going on in churches,doing away with bible study?whats this, they dont want you to know the word,, also doing away with alter call,no time to spend alone with God...STAND UP, expose these false teachers ..if your pastor is not preaching the word of God get rid of him or find a church that does preach the truth..I wrote a brief titled " The Holy Spirit Has Left The Building " I will post it on my page in th next couple of days...and thats whats wrong with a lot of churches to-day..they will not allow the Holy Spirit in..ok I have ranted enough, I could write 20 more pages on this subject..God bless you all, get that bible out, wipe the dust off it and study Gods word
