Hi Raven,

This is a parable of the talents, 'talent' indicates a natural ability (given by God). It means.. 'How did we use our natural talents, responsibilities and gifts for God's Glory'? We are rewarded based on our faithfulness to use the gifts God gives us. Don't worry about the results of your efforts, but rather your faithfulness.

Our faithfulness proves that we believe and trust in God. The 3rd man who hid his talent showed by his actions that he did not know the Lord. He didn't understand God's mercy, Grace, Love, Long-suffering and Forgiveness, instead he believed God to be a hard man, so he hid his talent in the ground, he was not faithful. He did not trust God.

Everything we have is given to us by God. We are stewards of the things He gives us, not owners. God is the owner. Do we see ourselves as stewards or owners? The difference is, a steward knows that he or she is to take care of the things God has given him or her. They are to be nurtured and allowed to grow for God's Glory and purposes. A steward also knows that he or she can go to the Owner and ask for help. We all receive different amounts to nurture. God decides. When Jesus returns we are each accountable to Him for how we handled our talents, responsibilities etc...

We can see by this parable that our view of God will direct our choices. Do we see God as a hard man with unfair and unrealistic expectations, or do we see Him as a loving Father who loves us and will empower us to do the right things as we pray and trust in Him? God knows we need Him, and wants us to call on Him for help all of the time. He is always ready to strengthen us so we will do the right thing.
